i guess i'm pampered by french presidential debates that actually are meaningful and do not devolve into shitflinging, with most candidates being experienced and very good orators

To say that Clinton won this debate is trying to make it sound like an achievement. The fact that Clinton is polling on average 46.7 to Trump's 44.3 is ridiculous. These debates will presumably not have a large impact on their polling numbers, and people voting come November will be based on who they hate the most. No clear winner for the November election. USA was a lost cause anyway when they got independence why even bother anymore.
