Today we saw the onset of one of the bloodiest battles behind the fall of City 17 - The Second Battle of Geneva, taking place between the dissidents of Lambda and our protective forces, spearheaded by the Transhumans.
This comes after a group of dissidents infiltrated the District, and sabotaged the former Unity Complex, which contained an Infestation of concentrations at levels in the all time highs for City 24's Infestation Control. This group also committed attacks on our Civil Protectorate teams, and ambushed the responding teams - Our last ditch effort at protection and peace was met with hostility from the Resistance.
The First Battle of Geneva took place about 2 months after the conclusion of the 7 hour war, beginning in a similar fashion, with a large element of old world resistors taking refuge in the geographically gifted location of Geneva. It was the world's bastion against the unifiers, and it was consequently destroyed by the liberators, as no inch was given without blood. The civilian death toll for the first battle was in the low ball of 9 thousand, and in the high ball of 58,000 casualties. The armed death toll neared 40,000. This was by far the bloodiest battle of the initial liberation as it took the longest, the most amount of resources and it contained the fiercest, most concentrated fighting. Stories of the surrendered simply shared how Geneva was bombed to the ground, until their spirit broke. How waves after waves defeated the last hold outs of the old world.
After the first battle, Geneva was rebuilt under the name City 24, and was filled with the highest tiers of loyalists and the interim Administration until it decided to re-locate. This was the primary, flagship city of the Union until the completion of City 17, which took the mantle due to it's high production capability, high population, and other factors. City 24 remained a good post for CAB members, and a loyalist safe haven, but what it made up for in looks and lack of restrictions, it lacked in production output - The richest city simply by currency, not by influence.
Back to the present day, the conclusion of the first day of fighting saw the destruction of most of the infrastructure present in District 0, with the death toll in the hundreds of civilians as whatever remained of the battered protectorate forces scrambled away from the fighting in the lost district, back into District 0 to contain the Antlions and Zombies that managed to infiltrate Geneva's protection schemes. Brief words and videos show the Palace of Nations being overrun by Antlions and their guards, but it was immediately re-captured by the Transhumans. The city is now under curfew and martial law.
We do not know as of yet what the death toll looks like on the either side of the forces at hand fighting for Geneva, but we stand with fated breath, as this could be the tidal turn that makes or breaks the Union. We have not yet heard anything from the Councillors of the newly founded Overwatch Security Council, but we hope to hear something soon - There was a brief announcement of the new changes to the city by the Head Councillor and another, as drastic measures are now being implemented to mobilize any and all loyalists to help the war effort.
For those in Geneva, we ask that you comply with the mandated effects, and we ask that you pursue to help the war effort against the dissidents.
For those outside of Geneva, fated breath awaits us all as we watch and see what happens in this fight - The Fall of Geneva cannot happen. If it does, there may be no hope left.
