Yes but there would be a lot more victims and deaths in the gun attacks since he doesn't have to get up close and personal with a gun. He can also kill a lot more people a lot faster with a gun.

Oh and it's a lot harder to kill someone with a knife/machete than you'd think. A guy was stabbed several times in his face, under his left eye by an eight inch knife and still managed to survive.
