The radio messages before implied the chopper was being chased by a gunship, which appeared at the crash site few minutes later. Plus, it's a really quick jaunt from the Combine base to that point of the map. What confounds me is the fact the sniper appeared where it did. I assumed the depot on the other side of the destroyed bridge was abandoned, like the one in the outskirts of the city ruins. This minievent made it look like the bridge depot is still active and therefore putting rebels at an immense disadvantage.
my radio wasn't set at the right frequency at the time, I just followed everyone else after someone shouted "chopper down! we gotta get supplies!" so when I saw the combine sniper I just filled in the blanks with my mind. my issue isn't with that event in particular, it was fine, it wasn't bad, my issue is with the attitude and ideology that seems to be forming around events in this new iteration. they are no longer being utilized as a tool to tell a story and develop characters- they are being used as a tool to distribute loot (which is fine, events should have loot) and have become boring and uninteresting most of the time. there are ways to distribute loot through events that aren't just shoot shoot at combine sniper and combine gunship

I mean we've been playing for something of a week, specific events are happening, but they're not anything big storywise when it's a singular occurrence. So far there are situations with stories but I'd say the event team also needs team to make up some story to bring people onto.

Like I get what you mean but so far we've had the depot launch event already with a goal for the players to work towards, open sabotage from both sides (player directed) and several encounters. We also have objectives here.

But just to put this out there, absolute and complete reliance on events to have any character development is impossible. Character development comes from overcoming any hardship and relating with other characters too. Regardless I am sure there are things in store and soon to come.

i actually liked the first map, i just think our time on it should've been a few days shorter. i usually had something to do and I felt like I was working towards a tangible goal. however, on this second map it feels that the roleplay is just devolving into "yeah man, you got any ammo" "nah bro" "damn I wish I had this gun", and other, similar, meaningless discussions occurring in the rebel cave, the same conversations that have occurred for years.

Wait which depot omg this map is hard to learn for my peabrain
This one:
135248C452F7CE785C21C2FE0B27951FA9DEADE5

The sniper was nestled vaguely around the node (on that side of the bridge), whereas the chopper crashed somewhere around the lake. I couldn't really tell because the sniper and his abundance of cover - plus the gunship approaching around the same time I went to check - deterred me from checking closer.

That's the Catch-22 of needing to get people geared up and equipped and not wanting to just have BMD's or crates or whatever IMO.

These 'low effort' events are probably the most engaging way the average staff member/event maker can make them happen on a short timespan tbh.

As for the RP quality that's also sadly another side effect of some people just playing for gear and guns rather than setting their own objectives in the meantime. They lapse back into meaningless smalltalk rather than using it to dev.

we cant always crank out the highest narrative events for the most basic weaponry. cant feed people big stories lest they stop making their own

right now, rebels just need to find a way to deal with their ic communication flaws, coordinate better, work on setting collective rules, etc

I am pretty sure they are talking about the time we were doing the relay minievent and 15 rebels attacked us, that's where the sniper and the gunship came from

Well, that was a peculiar turn of events.
We went to sabotage one of the nodes, the Combine goes to repair it, we aggro the APC and it starts approaching rebel base with a complement of CPs. We start duking it out over the valley, and one of the rebels starts RDMing friendlies. Now everybody's in the process of getting refunded, and the node was repaired.
(Just figured I'd provide context in case this thread started getting a lot of posts after what happened)

Regardless, I'm starting to see a lot of mental attrition among rebels in regards to APCs. The reactions I'm seeing from people are hopelessness and pessimism.

CP patrol? Sure, you can take them on.
OTA patrol? Difficult, but doable.
Hunters? Getting on the side of unfeasible there.
APC? Impossible to deal with.

During this brief turn of events where Vorts went to sabotage a node and the Combine went to repair it, I noticed people's frustrations about the death fridge making it impossible to do anything against the repair efforts. The mass RDMer definitely didn't help with the decreasing OOC morale of rebels who had to sit there simmering with their thoughts during the refund downtime.
