You'd get dogpiled for saying it,
A similar situation happens on the other side unfortunately. If you're not playing Johnny Loyal Cop who HATES the REBELS and does everything they can in their power to hinder, kill, disrupt the resistance at 100% Efficiency, Min Maxing your performance. Then you're simply a detriment to the Faction apparently. You simply 'waste supplies'.

I'm sorry, but I agreed to roleplay a character, not to win fictional engagements.

I think to a degree I understand it, because there IS a war, and I'm absolutely not saying cops don't have the same flaws sometimes, but its often a lot more obvious with rebels because cops have been the easier target for getting hammered into on the forums and thus being forced to change and improve.

By contrast, rebels have never had the same level of scrutiny put on them. Hell, it wasn't really until @"john"'s last few 1.0 events that people could no longer ignore the abysmal attitudes a lot of rebel players had at the time OOC when things didn't work out for them, despite the fact it had been an ongoing theme since 2016.

how rewarding it was to play a character who stuck to their own motivations even if it was an OOC detriment to themselves
Me when my vort harpoons an alien grunt and almost gets everyone wrecked (everybody thinks he acted accordingly to what information he was given (nobody knows he actually just really hates alien grunts))

Anyone who screams this should be covertly shot dead while on patrol.

Cops are the last bastion of zealots, not NPCs with an altered difficulty setting.

I'm not trying to shit on a whole half of the playerbase or anything btw, I'm genuinely not. I've played Rebels for almost as long as I have Combine characters.

But Rebels have always been allowed to exist in their own ecosystem, warts and all, because it was literally too exhausting and tiring to try and change things for them. You were never going to get people who enjoyed script-playing to change that, and they sure as hell weren't going to take the idea they weren't playing characters on the chin.

So it was just easier to ignore or sort of half-exclude them instead.

And, idk, I think there's so much potential here - a genuine ability to change things in the same way Helix did, just without having to use force (even if that force did help tbh).

can i get clarification on the firebug situation, because last night it seemed like it was being made crystal clear in the gas station event that if the combine were going to setup the mortar, they'd be doing it today and there'd be one last shot at freeing him - but supposedly he already died yesterday?

He would have been able to be rescued within a 24 hour period while he was in the pod, not anymore, rebels blew him up and PK'd him.

Rebels have PK'd more vorts then combine

The mortars the rebels fired at our mortar blew up Firebug's pod, killing him. If that didn't occur, there would be a chance for the rest of today for him to be freed from the pod.

Seems there may have been crossed wires, lot of folks on rebel radios were saying they were informed firebug was already dead

Firebug was in Stasis, A living Battery. 24 hours to be 'saved'.

Rebels used all their Mortar Munitions destroying the combine mortar while the 'battery' was still attached.

Probably doesn't help the fact that Firebug wasn't flagged up while it was happening, so that was just another thing for people to get the "Welp, he's dead" impression.

A giant pod connected to a generator connected to a mortar with wires is all the evidence anybody needs to go "Oh well that definitely isn't a stalker pod."

This worries me a bit cause I'm pretty sure nothing was ICly hinted about him being dead (or alive)
Could well be misinfo like simman said, just don't remember if the claims firebug was dead were ic of ooc.
but could've been a way to make people willing to bomb safely, instead of push in and risk dying.

^
Outside of an inside man in the cops or the Lamhack, there was never any external indication given as to his status beyond 'captured'. So not to say that there weren't ways of finding out, but as far as what the Combine side actually -showed-, there was no reason to suspect that he was dead, alive, or in imminent danger of dying.

Either way, though, if it did ultimately come down to an IC game of Telephone, that's still something that propagated ICly. And the same should be said with the consequences, imo.

Plus, there was a floating text over the pod to illustrate it as something important, rebels just went the nuclear option fast without properly checking.
