are you sure you want to become expected to heal everyone you come across even when theyre missing like 10 hp, you're gonna become demanded as heal dispensers on another level if this is added, which might limit your ability to say no to people without looking like dicks
I assumed that rebels already lowkey think we're dicks whenever we throw the "This one has exhausted his strength and cannot heal" response at them. There's always bound to be a bit of gameism in a situation where a human medic physically cannot do anything due to a lack of medical scripts (or there is no human medic to speak of present), and an alien medic just has to do some /me's, yet restrains himself for RP reasons. It could mean life or death for some patients, and they get denied because a vort is indirectly saying "I don't feel like it."

At the very least, having a SWEP allows there to be tangible restraints on the vort's ability to heal, which could lessen the expectations people have.

I'd still go for the idea of items only vorts can use, it's way easier to code I think and we can somehow manage it better (we can both enable for it to be crafted or dropped when killing specific enemy NPCs, or just give it out from expeditions or when RP is performed on a hunted xenian/exo lifeform).

That in itself is kind of a double-edged sword. It's basically admin intervention with extra steps - where currently you need to ask for /help after healRP, this scenario would require admins to have placed resources ahead of time or one present when you harvestRP resources and ask for them in /help.

Still, I do think vort-made healing items are a novel concept. Hell, I did it myself by RPing turning some grub nuggets into a medigel vial script - yet that required admin oversight. I don't think they should be the only avenue of healing, though, since it can loop back around to "yo vort you got some magic healing goo, right? gimme gimme gimme am almost dead pls."

But you don't need to get said items right when the action is happening, which is what limits the healing capability. You go and gather, get the items and have them on you. Then when you need them, you apply them. It's not like the server won't have staff to give you the stuff you harvest, and even admins can spawn scripts now.

You don't want rebels to over focus on you guys being able to heal, but you want to give yourselves autonomy so they can blame you for not healing them. If your reply is "we apologize, but we have not been able to retrieve the necessary items" it will be just as if a medic says "sorry but I used my last medigel vial an hour ago".

Like I get your point but I don't think there's that big of a need for a SWEP that has some sort of 3 hours cooldown (if it's even possible to do). I am trying to find workarounds that are viable, will not get you blamed for not healing, and will not have Gary crushing his balls with a hammer.

That's what we are both trying to do. From my point of view, coding in a bunch of new crafting ingredients, crafting recipes and the products of crafting themselves sounds like an incredibly lengthy process unto itself. Hell, as far as I remember, this kind of discussion was had near-exactly several years ago. People were discussing how Vorts should be able to craft unique items, everybody was in agreement - and nothing ever came of it. This is not me blaming the developers of yore. I'm sure there were valid reasons, and I'm not one to disrespect by assuming.

Of course the decision ultimately falls upon Gary even here. I'm not rattling off all these mechanical quirks as some kind of to-do list, but rather to show I am aware that a healing SWEP would need features to balance its use.

Thing is, the process of making said items and recipes is way simpler than creating a whole new SWEP from the ground up. That is, if the code works the way I would've coded it. Sure, we may need to find out how we're going to structure said recipes but it's still a way easier job than coding a complete new weapon.

Its funny when Vorts get accused of being selfish because they used to ask for the only things they need (food or water) in exchange for their services

Meanwhile if they didn't act like mobile medipacks whenever asked they were just outright not included lol
