Right, well, I'll put my money where my mouth is, I hadn't played Honest Hearts yet, I have the DLC.
Honest hearts is fun to play through, not the best story but the little bits along the way like the cave father and such are what make it

Also the malpais legate being a philosopher with a 45

I thought they tried a bit too hard to make Ulysses profound and mysterious to the point where he sometimes didn’t make sense.

Still my favourite dlc though, I always like to talk him down so he spends his time watching the edge of the divide

Each dlc is good at its own thing so when you ask for a best one it all really depends on what you're into or looking for at that time

old world blues in wacky sci-fi adventure and is good
lonesome road is some good story and good character shit
honest hearts is good old white man killing tribals and is grand fun
dead money is a bit weak in parts but solid in the rest, its the good but shit in comparison to the rest

completely agree, his writing was too pretentious imho, he talked so much and in reality said "huh, man, shit is fucked and we collectively are responsible. dude..."

Dead Money gets a lot of shit which I don't think it deserves. From an atmospheric standpoint I think that Dead Money went beyond the call of duty and every other DLC pales in comparison. The distorted loop of begin again which plays at the fountain and the background music is just fantastic and it's so immersive.

Design wise, Dead Money lacks significantly. The buildings of the villa look nice from the exterior and the casino itself is really well made but everything else feels so... generic. There's just too many empty open buildings and unexplainable factories lying around and it feels as if some cells were directly ripped from 3 or NV.

The story for Dead Money is also pretty great. Hearing the story of Elijah from Veronica and other BoS members and hearing about what a hero he was only to find out he's put you in a slave collar and is forcing you to risk your life to break into a casino was a great twist. There all also plenty of endings as well moreso than say Honest Hearts. My personal favourite ending is to trap Elijah in the vault. It's just so satisfying to seal him in there.

at least i recognise it and try to avoid it

it's like Ulysses was doing an essay and needed to up the wordcount

Going to correct you there.

He's a tribal, and has learnt to speak English through the legion, so it's a bit spotty and he uses a different type of wording to us as he still struggles to speak English.

I mean, he calls radiation "invisible fire" and the NCR "the bear" so it's easy to see how he could be pretentious.

He's pretentious because he struggles to speak English, you're pretentious because you're a drama student :/

dallas likes honest hearts the best because of the subtle religious and spiritual undertones that it has from the burned man and tribal factions

i enjoyed lonesome road as its difficulty was fun to work against, its exposition was good, its unique ending of having to decide yourself what the best way is to understand ulyesses and his ideology really is to talk him down, the linear environment was a nice change from the running miles around the map, etc
to me it was just a great wrap up to the open arcs that also reflected on what you learnt as a player and how your decisions guided you in the game
