GLAAD, Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, recognizes trap as an offensive word. What makes me so against it though is because of the trans panic defense. Trans people have been killed and the murderer has gotten off with a lighter sentence because of it, where they defended themselves by saying "they tricked us into thinking she was a woman", ie trapping them. It's disgusting for any person.

only thing im unhappy with, not even mad just displeased is flatly denouncing the word as purely a slur when my boyfriend uses it to describe himself regularly in a purely positive way

being a trap isn't supposed to be a good thing anyway it's someone who purposely deceives someone of the opposite gender and lures them in by crossdressing which i think is pretty disrespectful especially since some people on this thread bang on about respecting peoples sexuality

the word can be used from so many different standpoints is what im getting at
someone uses it towards a trans person to demean or paint them negatively, its a slur ofc
someone uses it to identify their body type and way they look, its just self identification

the meaning of words change over time, the word itself has origin from eastern media and "trapping/tricking people" yes but thats not what its universal meaning is today

so yes it can be a good thing, as a point of self-identification
seeing someone else identifying with it as something negative is just backwards as hell

traps are people who derogatorily use crossdressing for their own benefit by deceiving others about their gender for their own gain

crossdressers are crossdressers and aren't bad at all

if people still want to identify as a trap then by all means do it but be aware of the widely accepted connotations

but majority of internet-dwellers see it as a certain appearance among guys
whích fits into crossdressing but isnt the same as crossdressing as the term crossdressing referrs to guys who dress with typically women's clothes while a trap is basically the same as a guy crossing more into femininity in terms of looks but is not bound by how they dress
