Pretty sure opinions are subjective and not objective, but sure. Only losers here are the people who feel the need to be toxic over a difference of opinion.
it isn't even being toxic

it's true that OTA doesn't really add anything interesting to the roleplay, at least for me

cue Kommando Squad who skinned a vortigaunt on Heavy Snow (before the first mapchange, mind you, only ten minutes in) and showed it off to a captured biotic.

and then proceeded to nail five vortigaunts to trees on the next map

ota doesn’t add anything to roleplay please tell me how they aren’t objectively bad
OTA is a mainstay of the HL2 franchise and while they may rarely interact with, like scanners, they're important to keep around to keep thing feeling like Half-Life. They have their place and purpose.

Again, this is why it's subjective, I want a truer HL2 experience and some just want to create more RP at the cost of what little established lore there is.

many people don't want a half life experience because there's not much space for roleplay and events in the bland, stale setting of half life 2

I think keeping the core of HL2 is important but expanding out is good too, which is what Helix has allowed for. We've already done shit that never would have been possible on CW beyond Dallas' event chains.

As for OTA? They're there because traditionally you can't just nicely ask rebels to stop going OTT and after a certain point when cops are being butchered with shotguns and shit you need to remind people it can't keep going. As I've said, its a mentality problem that loops back into the fact people take OOC advantage of things.

On Helix though they're not exactly needed beyond events and guarding, and likely will never be needed as they used to be primarily because Cops are never going to be so utterly outmatched by a bunch of people who farmed rations for a week or two.

conscript rp should be less about the s2k and more so the conscript life

just treat it like some sort of military rp setting if you want conscripts to develop character, just make them do passive rp shit and once in a while s2k as it’s attributed from many soldiers in stale wars

“it’s 95% boredom and five percent oh man crazy war shit”

lambda isn’t around, resistances are hardly unified as a fighting force so it’ll be mostly guerilla fighting, so if we do another heavy snow tier shit make rp the focus by doing base activities, events of COs parading around or just let them interact with goods they can’t find in the city (drugs, good as fuck food, non uu tobacco, weaponry)

lessen rules, heavy snow and shit lacked what events like toride has - there was infinitely a lot less enforcement of rules and rules in general, literally when something cool went down a proselyte would flag on and cuck shit

and stupid arbitrary rules just meant to PK people over for rping in them like fucking, doping or some other menial shit that makes no sense to enforce when you’re in a desperate war to the point you’re conscripting whole cities to fight and go “yup don’t do this or we’ll shoot you”

The thing is though Toride was heavily scripted for narrative to the point most of the stuff conscripts wanted to do (which included a full-on coup and assassination of CAB) was shut down quietly before it got off the ground. The difference is people just didn't take the complete piss with it because it was a Dallas event and people didn't wanna be labelled for dicking about during it.

Conversely if someone dicked around during an event like Heavy Snow, who'd care or kick up shit? Not to mention Conscripts were hardly remotely relevant to the wider event beyond one or two events and guarding the wall - they weren't the main focus in that regard which made them easier to handle.

every meme character during heavy snow should have been banned and the ranks shouldnt have been given out like candy

I think the biggest thing is just how far people are willing to push others based on who they are when it comes to various events.

I legitimately cannot think of a single user in this community who'd have gone into something like Toride with the intention of making a semi-serious meme character because it just wouldn't have happened. They'd have been named and shamed by everyone and smeared across multiple threads with memes. It just wasn't worth it to seem funny.

Compare that to literally every single other outing of conscripts stretching back to LP Outlands to now and you'll see a massive difference in that people generally will push their luck and will take the piss. If they're confronted or banned over it? It was just their character, can't they be unique anymore?
