Most VR games can be played with any headset but you have to go through the hassle of properly configuring them.

My friend has the Lenovo Explorer VR (about 300€?) and he can play all games but it took us a while to config it.

I played VR on a GTX 750 Ti fluently despite it constantly telling me my system doesn't meet the requirements

The paywall isnt that massive depending on what VR headset you pay for, plus you then have a VR headset for a ton of other experiences. Pavlov is 5 bucks and a blast to play and runs great on lower-end PCs.

Despite, I strongly believe it's not gonna be too groundbreaking and just a VR game with a little bit of Half Life squeezed for the purpose of sales.

Half-Life seemed to spawn a lot of fun mods, obviously Counter-Strike is still popular to this day. Half-Life 2 gave us Garry's Mod, right? I wonder if this new VR game would lead to modders making creative VR experiences that'll be popular for years.

hl2 was a similar situation. peoples’ hardware at the time wasn’t powerful enough to run it and a buncha people had to upgrade the shit outta their shit to be able to play.

This is gonna be one of many major VR games coming.

Valve is pushing forward 3 VR titles, and we are seeing smaller studios working on things like boneworks while we also get regular (and good) game ports.

The argument of “there aren’t any games” is just stupid. We are seeing major works coming out, case and point: this game, the first of many.

The argument of “there aren’t any games” is just stupid. We are seeing major works coming out, case and point: this game, the first of many.

It helps that the game will likely be an innovative showcase / platform for VR titles to come, such as Half Life 2 being a setpiece for technology at the time (improved facial expressions, HDR, lighting, physics, etc). This trend continued with Portal 2, so we're likely to see future offerings either use what's developed here or massively improve on it for future sequels.
