Reminder that the biolocked thing in lore was justification for the faction lock code so we didn't have to constantly deal with random retards stealing APC'S whenever they were spawned (usually in the city or in places packed with citizens during events), not the other way around.

It shouldn't be a massive cockblock for a well-known roleplayer in an iteration where the entire point is to try new things and have fun. If it was unlocked and running then oh well.

Besides are we forgetting when a conscript stole an APC during Finus lol

actually fucking true

a huge chunk of "umm combine security" is founded upon "uh... we win actually" mentality

I mean I don't blame people for that persay because the lore was written to justify a server built around a status quo, and the fact that there was a very serious us vs them mentality perpetuated by players (and sometimes staff) on both sides of the coin.

The problem is still thinking those mentalities still apply (or should still apply) now. Those are the sorts of things that absolutely ruined the last event of Helix 1.0

i am reminded of the time people assumed the weird city 17 iteration lore of "pulse weapons shoot copper shavings that can tear apart your limbs in a few shots" was canon in HLNA for no reason but to be upset at the fact COTA was allowed to rp (they recently lost an attack on the rebels so i have no idea what the rebelRPers were complaining about)

Oh I know why that was, speaking as someone who took part in that attack on the rebel side lmao.

Basically we knew there was an upcoming event to retake NLO after we'd been driven out and so we did almost a week solid of thorough recon to see what defences the garrison had managed to set up. Planned the attack based around that, knowing it'd be a very serious risk and we had very mininal resources in some areas (particularly heavy weapons).

Come the day of the attack and Tanknut is late so suddenly right as we engage in the two-pronged attack there's a whole extra squad of COTA (including two snipers) on the cliff, another WALLHAMMER and an extra APC that appeared out of nowhere. It caused chaos, utterly shut down our flanking team and iirc a COTA player took to the forums to complain that rebels weren't Rping realistically to pulse rounds (hence the lore thing).

Conduct on both sides was poor but I'd be lying if I said it didn't frustrate the hell out of me at the time.

if i knew who made that initial complaint i would have turned them into a small garden gnome for the rest of the iteration

my memory is getting blurry though because i thought it was the lighthouse point attack, wherein i recall that i played a charger because of this screenshot:

i don't remember if you were part of this crowd but i hope at least one of the peple lined up here enjoyed the encounter (as far as i recall some of them got incredibly angry even though i intentionally RPed inaccurately to scare the shit out of them)

EDIT

wait no i think this WAS the NLO attack!!! its a week after my NLO surrender ultimatum so it has to be

it wasn't a Combine APC though, just a military one
tbf “the lore we’ve used for years” means literally fuck all
good, it's an awful glob of discordant ideas written by people who hate each other, it should be ignored.
would you guys be arguing this if AR2s were suddenly, on the whim, declared biolocked by a singular staff member? and removed from inventories of rebels who picked them up, even though they can use them codewise?
If it was unlocked and running then oh well.
it was not running (as in the engine was off). the front hatch of the APC has no way to be locked, if a non-Combine player tries to access it it plays an alarm and that's it
the passenger hatch was 100% locked when I last got out of it, if it was logged in any way I could be proved right but I don't think there is. if it really was somehow unlocked, then it must've glitched out while I was jumping out/the staff member was jumping in

Again you gotta ask yourself, what did you lose? Did the rebel steal the apc to use it against you? No, they threw it into the lake.

So why are people upset? Shit happens, its funny, carry on.

If you want some lore reason, just say that they shove out the new equipment so fast that they don't have the time or resources to biolock (Luxury of Union-Controlled Times) and it's deemed a waste of time and resources as Union forced burn through weaponry quickly regardless.

Since, well, it's a war, why would you spend a bunch of time shoving out biolocks when you could be using that time on producing another cheap, poor quality pistol or something

It fascinates me that the principle of keyless fobs is not taken into consideration even though all CPs send out a biosignal ping, and it isn't technically even complicated to manufacture/make unique to individual CPs...

I quote these two messages but I could quote many more.

I don't like how Combine players can have this type of stuff done to them and if they complain about it cause it's never been that way, people can just group bully them into accepting it all by mocking them publicly in these threads (which is what all these posts are achieving, nothing else).

This was no new concept we brought in. This wasn't even possible OOCly by the add-on's inner workings, a staff member had to drive it on an Overwatch char. I get we are changing things and I like it, but I would like to have these changes done properly and not at the expense of the players' enjoyment and fair play.

Nobody's saying this shouldn't be a thing- We can make it be and I think we're mostly in favor of it. But it's not about staff or the iteration, it's about the players being neglected when these things are done to them. We keep ranting about how this is just a videogame and we all have to enjoy it but if you're not fair to both sides then one of those sides will have no enjoyment and will have to seek it in some other way.

We don't even need any lore reason bro just for whatever setting that blocks players that are not Combine to change and the ability to lock the main hub (driver/gunner), and to tell everyone the "biolocked" bullshit was never a thing in this iteration BEFORE we bend the known rules of the game against them. That's all really.
