I remember being staff and painting myself black or giving myself wonky textures. I'd appear around the corner and disappear into observer when they came looking.
I also remember this one time when I was binge playing some old Unity game called Dead Frontier that had pretty cool zombie designs like the one pictured below:
They were like mini boss fights that allowed cops/rebels to fight something a bit more challenging than a regular zombie.
I also remember hosting mini server events for cops that acted like simulations to let them S2K to their heart's content. I'd set up some volunteers to shoot at them and lay out traps (never forget the health pack with a SLAM underneath it).
Also pushing the paranormal aspect of HL2, making random players hallucinate or absolutely gaslighting them by PM'ing people around them to ignore me while the player I was targeting wasn't aware. Made for some funny interactions.
Who can forget the critically acclaimed off-server event 'BLAZER'? My first and last event on the event server.
I also remember this new player who I pulled aside. I walked him through how to RP back on the City 8 map in the Outlands. Set up little scenarios with props and whatnot and pretended to be a player he could interact with. I taught him the basics and let him go out and about afterward, following him around and giving him pointers on what to say and do. He did well and I left him be. I wonder what he's up to nowadays.
Tried to do this with another new player and got called a slur, so I banned them lmao.
All in all, I got staff to do wacky and fun stuff for players.
Who remembers Maximum Pain at the City 8 thunderdome by the ladder? We used to host a fight club and it was kino, loved that shit.
Who remember the Space AIDS Outbreak that accidentally happened when
@GenericPlayer and myself threw a throwaway with a sickness into the city? Diagnosed by some legend of a UM player with some crazy disease that spread among the populace. Totally unplanned event that spiraled into a map-wide change with medical tents and new laws being imposed to make sure the spread is stopped. Scarily enough we did this before the Covid outbreak. I still think about that chain of events.
I don't look back at my time spent in this community with regret. It wasn't wasted time; granted I would've preferred to go outside more often but I am a grown adult now and everything has fallen into place. No regrets; it actually helped me become a better writer. Learned a lot from this multi-national community which allows me to talk to other people from around the globe and to laugh about the same things.
It sucks that I got banned during Covid when I made some less-than-stellar statements regarding the situation. It was insensitive; my only regret when it comes to being a part of this community since 2013.
In any case, if anyone wants to add me on Steam or Discord or whatever, just send me a PM on here and we could game together.
Please don't ban me Alex, I'll be good.
