I think it's better to say "its only offensive if you make it" but that's still shifting blame on the victim of the slur rather than the perpetrator.

Yeah I mean thats like pretty subjective isnt it if you dont care you dont care. People get to be offended its just that if you let people work you up over it then you've pretty much given them power over your emotions with a stupid word.

There's a % who do care and some comments really do take a toll on some people at a bigger level than just "getting angry"

It's not about making the victim stronger, which they will eventually be without the need of someone insulting them, it's about not pinning the guilt on the victim and instead telling the culprit to shut their mouth and stop saying bad shit

If you're with friends and you're alright among eachother and want to insult eachother alright man, I do it all the time cause me and my friends speak to eachother like that, we really fucking drop big words but at the end of the day we're friends and that's why there's some sort of "insult pass" cause the next minute we're also saying yo man love ya man you're the best

It's different when we talk about strangers though, some people can hit back, and some others can't. The best way to avoid the people who can't hit back from getting hurt is by making certain slurs something bad to say to someone you know nothing about, basically.

Like, just watch how angry some people get when they call them "cishets" and it's not even supposed to be a slur, why wouldn't gay people get mad when they're called "faggots", "deviates" or "traps"?

Essentially, a slur is a slur. Whether someone gets offended or not by it doesn't change the fact that the word itself is a slur. The context matters a lot in these situations, but yeah don't go to random trans people and call them traps, it ain't really nice.

I used to think that, but if you look into the history of the term, it's been used to refer to transgender people since the start.

sometimes trans people are called traps in malicious ways though, that's something we should be upfront with, though as far as i'm aware, traps are just cis guys who enjoy looking feminine, or look feminine by default.
